More than half a year ago, the Bollywood movie “Raees” claimed the No. 1 spot among the top 10 Hindi movies released in the first quarter of 2017. And now, compared with all other Hindi movies released in 2017, “Raees” has seized the crown for the whole year after being downloaded and shared by the highest number of fans: almost 6.2 million. As for the lower ranks, the movies “Kaabil” and “Jolly LLB 2” landed spots 2 and 3 in the top 10 Hindi movie chart of 2017, respectively.

NEW FILMS JOIN THE LIST OF MOST POPULAR HINDI MOVIES IN 2017!
Besides the well-known films occupying the first three spots in the top 10 Hindi movie chart of 2017, some other great new films checked into the following positions:
No. 4 – ‘TOILET: EK PREM KATHA’ The Bollywood blockbuster “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha”, starring the famous actor and producer Akshay Kumar, was released on August 11, 2017. As we reported 10 days later, the movie was clearly set to be a success. And indeed it was! The film not only claimed considerable box-office earnings of more than 200 crores (2 billion Indian rupees) worldwide and got rated as a “super hit,” according to Box Office India, but it also landed in the coveted No. 4 spot of the top 10 Hindi movie chart of 2017. This film’s popularity becomes even more obvious if the number of days it wason the list are taken into account. For example, “Jolly LLB 2” was released in the beginning of the year, and within 325 days 4.4 million P2P users downloaded and shared the Indian comedy film. Whereas Kumar's “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” was only released in August and within 143 days had also already been downloaded by almost 4.3 million users!
No. 5 – ‘HALF GIRLFRIEND’ Will “Half Girlfriend” become a full-fledged hit in 2017? Do you remember the headline of the analysis released on June 16, 2017? In mid-summer 2017, the romance movie “Half Girlfriend” was first screened in Indian theaters. On the same day, torrent files of the movie hit P2P networks and enabled more than 229,000 P2P users to download and share the romance flick within just two days. Overall, file sharers seem to love the film, pushing it into spot No. 5 of the top 10 Hindi movie chart of 2017.
No. 7 – ‘GOLMAAL AGAIN’ The top Bollywood movie “Golmaal Again” was only released in the last quarter of the year, on October 20, 2017. But this relatively short period was more than enough for the comedy-action film to slip into the top 10 Hindi movie chart of 2017! But this doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, since more than 3.8 million P2P users downloaded and shared the fourth installment of the famous “Golmaal” franchise! As a result, it earned spot No. 7.
No. 10 – ‘JUDWAA 2’ Another great Bollywood film successfully landed in the coveted top 10 Hindi movie chart: “Judwaa 2”! Fans from all over the world seem to love the action-comedy movie – collecting more than 200 crores in the box-office worldwide, it was a real success, according to Box Office India! Data derived from P2P network usage also depicts the movie’s popularity: 3.4 million file sharers downloaded and shared “Judwaa 2”, earning it spot No. 10 in the top 10 Hindi movie list.
WELL-KNOWN FILMS HAVE SETTLED IN AMONG THE TOP 10 HINDI MOVIE CHART OF 2017

No. 6 – ‘BADRINATH KI DULHANIA’ With 3.56 million P2P users downloading and sharing the film since it was released on March 10, 2017, “Badrinath Ki Dulhania” made it to spot No. 6 of the top 10 Hindi movies chart.
No. 8 – ‘OK JAANU’ Next up, “OK Jaanu”, starring the famous actors Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, grabbed hold of a coveted spot in the top 10 Hindi movie chart. After landing at No. 3 in Q1, the romance-drama ended up No. 8 overall in 2017.
No. 9 – ‘THE GHAZI ATTACK’ The action-thriller checked into the top 10 Hindi movie chart of 2017 with 3.43 million P2P users downloading and sharing the film throughout the year, earning it spot No. 9.

Meet the top 10 Hindi movies worldwide

Mumbai – India’s film stronghold – produced a number of popular Bollywood movies released in 2017 that ranked in the worldwide top 10 file sharing charts in the first quarter of the year.
FAN BASE DISTRIBUTION OF TOP 10 HINDI MOVIES CONCENTRATED LARGELY IN INDIA
Analyzing the top 10 Hindi movies reveals a very clear fan-base distribution. Hindi movies were most popular in India by far, while the next-highest level of interest came from its neighbor, Pakistan. File sharing activity in other global markets, however, seemed comparably low. “Jolly LLB 2”, for example, was shared in the United States by 1.2% of worldwide file sharers. This pattern is the same for every Hindi movie ranked in the charts.
The highest density of fans is present in major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore. Pakistan, which is home to a large population of file sharers showing interest in the top 10 Hindi movies, came in a distant second in file sharer density when compared with India, whose population made up around 60% of total worldwide file sharers on average. According to the data, roughly 16% of worldwide file sharers came from Pakistan. Nevertheless, the Pakistani city of Lahore was consistently listed among the top cities sharing the top 10 Hindi films.
FANS OF TOP 10 HINDI MOVIES FLOCK TOGETHER FOR OTHER MEDIA, TOO
The first-quarter charts reveal a similar demand distribution for other films and media – such as series, music or games – among fans of the top 10 Hindi movies. Roughly 60-80% of Indian file sharers, for example, who shared a film from the top 10 Hindi movie charts tended to also share other movies from that list. Outside of the Hindi hits, these file sharers had other recent releases ranked near the top of their respective genres in common, like “xXx: Return of Xander Cage”. This pattern even extended to series, as titles like “The Walking Dead” showed up among the shared files of many of these users. Music artists Major Lazer, Ed Sheeran and The Chainsmokers were some of the favorites of P2P users who shared the top 10 Hindi movies. Lastly, our consumption profile is rounded off through an analysis of the top Hindi movie fan base’s file sharing patterns for games. In one of our latest articles about the new Indian Blockbuster “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, we discovered that one-third of “Baahubali 2” fans also shared at least one game from the “Grand Theft Auto” series. That same pattern of “Grand Theft Auto” fans showed up among file sharers of the top 10 Hindi movies as well.
