“Golmaal Again” – the fourth iteration of this top Bollywood movie franchise landed in Indian theaters on October 20, 2017. Nearly one month later, after its fifth weekend on the big screens, Rohit Shetty’s newest action-comedy flick had grossed an impressive 307 crore, the Times of India reported on November 22.* A trip to the movies is not the only way fans of the highly anticipated film got their fix; there was also significant activity on the smaller screens. On the day the top Bollywood movie was officially released, 12 torrent files of the movie popped up on P2P networks, followed by another 16 the next day. As a result, 302,600 P2P users worldwide reached for the “Golmaal Again” on October 21, 2017, and 77% of them did so from India. There weren’t really any surprises hiding in the list of countries following India in the ranking of locations where the most file sharers pirated the top Bollywood movie. Pakistan came second, the United Arab Emirates third, and Saudi Arabia fourth.
In the grander scheme of things, “Golmaal Again” managed to reach the No. 1 spot on the list depicting top Bollywood movies released in November so far, perched atop other highly anticipated top Bollywood movies like “Ittefaq” or “Secret Superstar”, which ranked second and third within the same period.
By breaking down the numbers to the city level, all of the top 10 cities with the highest number of fans can be found either in India or in Pakistan. To be specific, most fans were actively downloading and sharing the top Bollywood movie in Mumbai, followed by Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore. Further down the list, however, three Pakistani cities crept into the city ranking, with Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi snagging spots 7 through 9.
In the time since the movie was officially released, more than 2.4 million file sharers worldwide have actively engaged in downloading and sharing the action-comedy flick. Most of these transactions took place over ISPs like Jio, BSNL or Bharti Airtel in India or Pakistan Telecommunication company in Pakistan.
