The Swedish 19-year-old Zara Larsson has shown a continuous increase in file sharers favoring her music. Even though P2P activity has remained at a relatively low level in comparison with highfliers like the Chainsmokers or Ed Sheeran, the number of daily file sharers increased steadily from 1,900 in January to 6,700 file sharers in December 2016.
SINGLE "SO GOOD" IS MORE POPULAR THAN FULL ALBUM
Surprisingly, the release of her latest album “So Good” on March 17, which peaked at 11,000 file sharers within two days, could not beat her March 9 release of the single “Sundown” featuring the ambitious Nigerian music artist Wizkid, which peaked at 12,200 users on March 10, 2017.
ZARA LARSSON CLIMBS CHARTS IN SWEDEN
In total, Zara Larsson shows up at rank 10 in the current March Top 25 List for Sweden, pitting her against other successful music artists like Ed Sheeran or Metallica. Despite the success in her home country of Sweden, international recognition seems to be developing quite slowly, and she has not held a spot among the top 100 worldwide. This discrepancy becomes even more obvious when you compare the total of Zara Larsson’s 972,569 P2P users during 2016 to last year’s No. 1, Major Lazer, who has 13,420,627.
In the big scheme of things, Zara Larsson’s peaks in file-sharing activity look like a normal day for superstars like Ed Sheeran. Nevertheless, looking at the development of the young star’s popularity over the last two years, we see huge potential for her success and look forward what to come in 2017.
